Tips To Help Protect Your Teeth This Halloween
Halloween is fast approaching, and we know many of our patients are excited about the upcoming parties and celebrations. But with Halloween comes the temptation to indulge in sweet treats and candy. While enjoying these treats in moderation is fine, we want to remind you that too much candy can lead to serious oral health issues. To help you avoid problems, we’d like to share some tips for protecting your teeth during Halloween.
Choose Candy Wisely
We understand that candy is a big part of Halloween fun. However, selecting the right candy can help prevent dental problems. We recommend steering clear of chewy or sticky candies like taffy and caramels, which can cling to your teeth. Instead, opt for chocolate, which melts in your mouth and is less likely to stick to your teeth.
Drink Plenty of Water
Water is always our beverage of choice for patients. However, it’s especially important after eating sugary treats. Drinking water helps wash away lingering food particles and bacteria, which can lead to cavities if left on your teeth.
Maintain Good Oral Hygiene
Staying on top of your daily oral hygiene routine isn’t just important around Halloween—it’s important every day! Be sure to brush your teeth for at least two minutes, twice a day, and don’t forget to floss. If you are unsure about the best techniques for brushing and flossing, we’re happy to offer guidance at your next cleaning.
It’s important to keep up with your regular dental cleanings to maintain healthy teeth and gums. If it’s been longer than six months since your last visit, we encourage you to schedule an appointment soon. Please call us at our office in Meridian, ID and we’ll be happy to help you. Have a safe and happy Halloween!
